Doomed Confessionary: Bojan (Doomed Nation)

When I was drinking my morning coffee and listening to Carnivore’s self-titled masterpiece, I was thinking… It may be a fun thing to answer these questions (that I was sending out to the bands) by myself and you could get a chance to get to know me a little bit more as well.
Happy New Year to everybody! Stay safe!!!
Can you say a few words about your webzine?
Even before the pandemic, I had flashbacks in my mind to starting something like this. With previous experiences and background in promotion, booking and doing similar zines I had a basic vision of what it should look like. The main reason was that there are some really awesome and talented artists in my neighborhood (Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Croatia) that should reach a larger number of people who may like their music. They deserve to be heard. Thanks to my good friend Markun for building a platform to achieve that.
But please keep it in mind that Doomed Nation is not a professional webzine. This is just something that I do in my free time. I really like to promote artists that I like, discover new music, meet new friends, make connections… all over the world.
What was the biggest challenge for you this year?
The biggest challenge for me is, as always, timing and schedules. I have said this many times before: I just don’t have enough time for everything besides my full-time job, taking care of my house and other obligations. So there are no reviews and a little fewer interviews.
What can you be most proud of this year?
To keep everything going for obvious reasons 🙂 And this new Doomed Confessionary interview series. The questions could be a little less generic, but it was kinda instant decision. I just did it without thinking too much. At this point I would like to thank everybody for their time and interest. The response was overwhelming! I got tons of interviews in my inbox waiting to be posted. It’s clear that it won’t be finished this year, so I’ll continue to post until we’re done.
What was your biggest regret?
It is probably that I didn’t attend to more summer festivals that I planned for this year. The problem is that I don’t always get a crew to join me on my roadtrips. I used to drive alone even 500 kilimeters in the past. But I guess I’m too old for that shit now 🙂
What was the best concert/tour this year and why?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t so much around this year. I love summer festivals, so I’d say Sauzipf Rocks and Stick & Stone Fest in Austria. I like everything about it! From the surrounding landscape with forests, mountains, lakes and cornfields to the relaxed atmosphere, extremely friendly people, affordable prices, awesome food and sometimes even good beer. One of the highlights was probably seeing Acid King at Sauzipf Rocks.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
There are so many amazing bands that I just discovered this year. I’d like to mention a few bands, such as Oldest Sea (USA), Demons Of Noon (New Zealand), Supertzar (France), Masheena (Norway), Predatory Void (Belgium) or Monte Palomar (Argentina). And many more!
And there is also a completely different experience that impressed me a lot. I never thought I would be listening to Appalachian folk music 🙂 I came across a guy called Oliver Anthony by accident when I clicked on the live video of Shinedown performing an acoustic version of Skynyrd’s »Simple Man« at Blue Ridge Rock Fest. There is no doubt that he is a good singer and songwriter but his life story and he as a person really got me and inspired me in many ways. Ok, let’s skip the religious part but his down-to-earth attitude and big fuck off to all the politicians, mainstream media, high ticket prices and the music industry is something I have a lot of respect for. We should all seriously consider our lives and try to get back to simple things that count for real!
What are your plans for the next year? What do you personally want the most?
No big plans. I would be happy that I’d have enough energy to continue what I started.
Personally, I’d like to have more sleep and less stress than before 🙂 And that the world around us would be at least a little better to live in, because it seems that everything is slowly falling apart. No values, only greed, hatred and consuming everywhere you look 🙁
Do you already know what are you doing on New Year’s Eve?
Nothing special. To get drunk with my friends, crash someone’s party or causing riots in the city center 🙂 After the dinner with my sister, imagine 4 middle-aged guys drinking beer in my kitchen and listening to their favorite 80’s glam metal bands before going to a New Year’s Eve party at local (punk) rock bar Lukna.
How can people best support you?
If you like my content, share, like & comment. And if you want to be extra generous, you can buy me a coffee/beer at this location 🙂 Thanks!
Do you have any message for your readers?
