Doomed Confessionary: Brian Pitt (Smoke Mountain)

Smoke Mountain is a stoner/doom metal trio hailing from Tallahassee, Florida. Formed in 2015, Smoke Mountain consists of Sarah Pitt on vocals, Lee Pitt on guitar and Brian Pitt on drums.

The band quickly carved out a place in the doom metal scene with their self-titled debut EP in 2017, which garnered widespread acclaim and set the stage for their first full-length album. Released via Italy’s Argonauta Records in 2020, »Queen Of Sin« earned critical praise for its haunting melodies, crushing riffs, and atmospheric depth.

With their second album »The Rider«, released in March 2025 via Argonauta Records, Smoke Mountain builds upon this legacy while exploring new sonic territories. The album remains true to the band’s doom roots, showcasing their signature blend of occult themes, heavy grooves, and evocative lyrics. At the same time, it reveals a matured approach to melody, arrangement, and production.

»The Rider« is more than just an album; it’s a statement of Smoke Mountain’s place in the doom metal pantheon – a record that bridges their origins with the promise of what’s to come.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
We are a heavy band from Tallahassee, FL. Our main influences are Glenn Danzig, Melvins, Stooges, Pentagram, and Guided By Voices.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Haven’t had many challenges. We do what we do no matter what is happening.

What can you be most proud of so far?
I am proud of everything we have accomplished, especially the new record. I am also really looking forward to our next evolution. It’s going to blow your mind.

What was your biggest regret?
I don’t have time for regrets or bullshit.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
My personal favorite show was the last one we did at Real Cool Time Records here in Tallahassee. The audience was digging it hard, it was loud as hell, and there was a weird ass drone flying over us filming it.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
We have all been playing in bands for decades, I am not surprised by anything.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Me personally, the new Phantom album »Tyrants Of Wrath«, Belphegor’s »Lucifer Incestus«, and The Chisel’s »What A Fucking Nightmare«.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
To not give a shit what anyone thinks, and do it for yourself.

What are your guilty pleasures?
I don’t have any “guilty pleasures”. I’m an open book. I live my life.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in your city/state/province?
It seems to be pretty active currently, and I dig that. People are coming to shows, playing shows, putting out records, shopping local record stores, good shit!!! There is a current sense of unity here. Very supportive.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are working dates out now. The record release will be at our friend Matt’s shop, Real Cool Time Records, no doubt about it!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Stay one step ahead of the law. Make more records. Play shows. Keep our integrity.

How can people best support your band?
Buy our albums from Argonauta Records and our Bandcamp. Come to our shows. Spread the word. Listen to us on all streaming sites.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
“Pain’s not bad, it’s good. It teaches you things.” – Charles Manson
