Doomed Confessionary: D.Lolli, Anne Terror & Chuckie Rumbles (Mama Doom)

Originally formed in Newburgh, New York in 2016, since the band’s 2018 debut, »From Blue To Bone«, Mama Doom have traded in guitars for keyboards and ethereal vocals, and in doing so summoned the deepest of grooves from dominions below.
Finalising that perfect union with crushing bass and drums, their sound might be familiar to fans of doom rock, but it also offers a strangely unfamiliar and unique tone, given its impressive component parts. Mama Doom released their latest full-length album »Blood Salt Sacrifice« on December 15th, 2023 through Polish label Interstellar Smoke Records. A monumental tale encompassing the eerier aspects of death and the undying.
Mama Doom are D.Lolli on vocals, Chuckie Rumbles on bass and Anne Terror on drums.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Chuckie Rumbles: We love the music that we create. Too bad I can’t get them to change the name to ‘Chuckie Rumbles and Bass Freakout Extravaganza’.
D.Lolli: Dark, fun, & quirky. Anne, why did it take us this long to play together?
Anne Terror: I love these people and we have a great time playing music together. D, we’ve been talking about it since high school.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
D.Lolli: Originally it was finding a bass player. We went through a few members in the beginning since Chuckie was playing guitar. Once we realized we didn’t need the guitar, everything came together.
Chuckie Rumbles: Using a computer.
Anne Terror: After a million years of being in bands and playing live, I still have a nervous tummy before we go on. Thankfully I’ve never shit myself on stage (yet).
What can you be most proud of so far?
Anne Terror: Over the past two recordings, I’ve found that we’ve enhanced our sound and reshaped to find our niche.
Chuckie Rumbles: With the help of Gratuitous Productions, we’ve been able to experiment with different visual effects and imagery. Some of our videos have recently been selected for a couple of international film festivals, such as Etreum, Purgatory, and a hometown favorite the Hudson Valley Film Festival.
What was your biggest regret?
Chuckie Rumbles: We formed MD in 2016 and it took us until 2020 to fully realize our guitar-less formula. The amount of money I’ve spent on pedals.
D.Lolli: Not traveling to Norwary. We purchased tickets to come over and play a festival but it was cancelled. We should have went any ways and played in the streets.
Anne Terror: Not weaseling my way into this band sooner.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Chuckie Rumbles: We opened for Life Of Agony at The Chance Theater… We are big fans!
D.Lolli: Hasn’t happened yet. For booking contact ma**********@***il.com.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
D.Lolli: Surprise bitch.
Anne Terror: I’m not surprised by anything these days, or at least I try not to be. There have been so many changes over the years with music moving to a more digital format and costs rising that I’m just bobbing and weaving.
Chuckie Rumbles: My Rickenbacker didn’t work out 🙁
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Anne Terror: Depeche Mode & Heavy Temple.
D.Lolli: Nothing past 1996.
Chuckie Rumbles: Too many to list, I have a problem.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Anne Terror: Stay true to what you are doing, don’t sway towards the current trends.
D.Lolli: If you are going to put yourself out there, expect people to have an opinion (Grave Dave).
Chuckie Rumbles: Be on time, be professional.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Anne Terror: Nothing is guilty, hahaha.
D.Lolli: Telling Chuckie that his bass sounds like shit. The look of disappointment and terror says it all. Chuckie Rumbles doesn’t have a response because the man has no guilt.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Poughkeepsie / New York?
D.Lolli/Anne Terror: A big loss in the area was The Chance Theater closing its doors. There have been some great places to play over the years and even though many have closed, it’s exciting to see new places beginning to open.
Chuckie Rumbles: It seems to be improving.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
D.Lolli: 7/18 – Lucky 13 Brooklyn, NY
8/23 – VFW New Windsor, NY
9/14 – Cellar on Treadwell Hamden, CT
9/20 – Olives Nyack, NY
10/11 – Quinnz Pins Middletown, NY
