Doomed Confessionary: Danny Blackmore (Dusty Hill)

Dusty Hill is a five-piece heavy rock band from Chile blending 70s hard rock, progressive rock and blues. Named after ZZ Top bassist and singer Dusty Hill (R.I.P.), they are influenced by artists such as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Grand Funk and Black Sabbath.
The band’s line-up consists of Danny (vocals), Lou (guitar), Vincebus (bass), Alex (keyboards) and Felipe J (drums).
Can you say a few words about your band?
We like to say our style is definished as heavy rock, but there’s much more exploration in what we do, always tryin’ to put the progressive components to our bluesy based riffs, you know, some psychedelia too, strange time signatures, irregular meters, using different keys, we really enjoy our creative process.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
To survive in a world dominated by pop commercial music and these stereotypes. We feel very distant from that, we love the authentic rock and roll underground scene, but also we know in order to make a livin’ off this, sometimes you gotta do things that you don’t like, like… I don’t know.. maybe make tik tok videos and others. We believe in our music and its quality to take us where rock n roll gods want to take us. So we work hard to publish music, merchandise and all of those things that keep this dream on the road.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Our first EP »…Into The Black Mountains« had an amazing reception from the people on YouTube and Spotify especially. It exceeded all our expectations and that made us very happy. almost 6.000 persons listened to our work, it’s amazing considering we paid 0 promotion.
What was your biggest regret?
Last year was a tough one for us as band, the guys were prioritizing them jobs and that it totally ok, but we felt that we could have done much more, more releases, more merchandising, more shows, the time was the problem so, we are very focused this year to release a Long Play and book shows.
What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
One our favorite moments where at the local underground El Belloto abandoned factory, it’s a place where the local scene reunites and offer free shows for the community, it’s amazing the energy you breath in there, the youth, the authenticity of styles, the heavy music and the crowd is just perfect, that night was one of the best we had.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
In our local scene there are plenty of amazing bands and musicians, but almost non of the style we play so we always take a look outside, we love for example The Rival Sons, and Siena Root.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Deep Purple, Foghat, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Grand Funk Railroad, Led Zeppelin, Leaf Hound, Whitesnake, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Yes, and much more.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Never give up and play it louder, people back in my country are very hostile with rock and rollers so we had to be strong to receive all kinds of commentaries, but when somebody tells you: hey man the music you’re doing is really cool, keep doing it! that is something that fills my heart and makes me work harder everyday.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Hahahaha I don’t have any, I’m a music lover and I love every kind of music, maybe you’ll be surprised to know I like Madonna a lot, and a lot of other pop artists, I just really enjoy good music wherever it comes.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Quilpué / Chile?
There’s a big and strong underground scene in here, very prolific, always new bands coming, always releasing material in an independent way. DIY is our motto.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
This year we’ll be planning our first tour in our beautiful country. Maybe next year we will visit our neighbours in Argentina.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Release a full LP is one of our short time objectives, sell it physically is another one, keep composing, those are by now our future plans.
How can people best support your band?
Buying our stuff, buying our EP’s our singles, our merchandising, going to our shows. Remember all our material is self produced, so every economic help it’s a direct way to make our band reach very far, and keep doing music.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Thank you so much for support us, thank you so much to all the friends and fans that come to our shows always, thanks for listen to our music daily and for your supporting messages, we do this with much passion and love and we’re glad you like it. We’re about to release a new EP with 3 unreleased songs we know you’re gonna love it: Heavy Rock And Roll. And well if we keep working hard, an LP will see the light at the end of the year 2024. Thank you Bojan for your time and your incredible work in the zine, we really appreciate it, and a big thanks to Doomed Nation for spreading the heavy sounds. Keep it fucking’ heavy!
