Doomed Confessionary: Georgie Cosson (Kitchen Witch)

Since 2013, red-dust desert rock outfit Kitchen Witch have been wowing audiences with their powerful twist of femme-driven heavy rock grooves with some extra low-end riffage to spare. Dubbed as South Australia’s response to the California desert/stoner rock scene, the quartet continue to go from strength to strength with their uniquely Australian blend of blues & soul, 70’s rock, desert psychedelia and stoner metal doom.
They’ve cast a spell on audiences on stages across Australia with 1000mods, The Sword, Brant Bjork (Kyuss), Earthless, Samsara Blues Experiment and many more international riff-wizards worthy of note. Can you resist the Siren’s call?
Kitchen Witch are Georgie Cosson (vocals), Conor Kinsella (guitar), Ashton Rudd (bass) and Ed Noble (drums).
Today, Kitchen Witch just premiered new music video for their latest single »Glitch«!
Can you say a few words about your band?
Kitchen Witch are a 4 piece doom rocker band from Adelaide, Australia. It’s hard to explain our sound. I reckon if you listen to us you could hear inspo from desert rock, prog, metal, blues rock & soul.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
We live in Adelaide, Australia so the next capital city is an 8 hour drive away! Australia is such a vast, beautiful island continent that we love but not a huge audience for stoner rock due to the comparatively small population (although the stoner rock scene in Australia is amazing!). We would love to travel overseas really soon!
What can you be most proud of so far?
We just dropped »Glitch«, our new single and with the video clip by Crystal Arrow coming out this Friday. We have recorded 66.6% of our new album so can’t wait to share that with everyone. Still in the pipeline for Kitchen Witch but stay tuned!
In the meantime, listen to our »Earth And Ether« LP (we are super stoked with this album).
What was your biggest regret?
Ummmm, I’m not really a fan of having regrets. Anything that doesn’t go your way, makes you work harder or smarter next time, right?

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
It was so great to play with Earthless when they toured Australia in 2023. Their set was a total journey! Epic!
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Not really a surprise but I do enjoy the connections that music fans and fellow bands in the scene create. Music is a life force.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Emergency Rule, Rocky’s Pride and Joy, Planet of the 8s, All Them Witches, A Gazillion Angry Mexicans, Dr Colossus, He Is Legend, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Red Fang, Mr Bungle.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Do vocal warmups before you play a show! And drink straight whiskey.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Endless op shopping.
Can you say something more about the music scene in Adelaide?
The music scene in Adelaide and Australia is thriving. It’s warm and welcoming to fans and bands. There is physical distance between bands in Australia but we are still all really connected! Music venues are struggling in Australia, though. Some of our favourite rock n roll venues are closing their doors (and some festivals, too). Live music venues are where we get our music fix, hang with mates and make our world a better place so I hope that our government can help out our live music venues.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
We are retreating into the studio as the cold weather decends on the Southern Hemisphere. We will announce a tour for our next album on the other side.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Kitchen Witch would like to play in Europe and beyond after our Australian Tour for the next album.
How can people best support your band?
Listen to our music and if you dig it, buy the album, get the t-shirt and come to a show and say hi.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Support your live music venues! Although, anyone reading this probably already does!
