Doomed Confessionary: Jens Anderberg & Dylan Mincey (LungBurner)

LungBurner is a stoner/doom metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, currently consusting of Jens Anderberg (vocals, guitar, samples) and Dylan Mincey (drums).
Established as an exercise in amp worship, LungBurner formed in early 2023 and burst onto the scene following a packed debut show in Athens, GA. Combining bludgeoning riffs with atmospheric transitions along with tastefully placed samples, LungBurner seeks to create a unique voice within the doom, stoner, and hard rock scene. From the foundations of Black Sabbath and Sleep, the swagger and bravado of ZZ Top and Pantera, to the psychedelic breadth of Pink Floyd and YOB, LungBurner is a careful mix of genre splitting concepts presented with all the power of backline of tube amps on the verge of meltdown.
LungBurner’s debut EP »Embers« was released on January 26th, 2024, available now on all major streaming platforms.
Can you say a few words about your band?
Jens: We’re old. We’re determined. We like whiskey.
Dylan: We’ve both been musicians for a long time and we’re finally able to play the music we want to play, and when you have like minded individuals working towards a goal it makes the process much easier.
What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Jens: Honestly, it’s getting time off work to make shows happen. Bills gotta come first and work
Dylan: I would have to agree with Jens. I think trying to balance every aspect of life can be challenging and it takes time away from the band, but is always a worthy investment of time to do what you love. You make time to do it.
What can you be most proud of so far?
Jens: The reception from the community. Our minds are blown.
Dylan: What we have been able to accomplish in such a short time as a band is amazing to me. I’ve never been a part of something that has grown so quickly and for it to be done organically without any label or backing from anyone other than the community. Huge thanks go out to the fans, it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for them!
What was your biggest regret?
Jens: Not going after this sooner. There’s always a case to be made that everything’s meant to happen when it does and I can’t deny that either, but I wouldn’t be upset if it happened earlier!
Dylan: I think for me, it was the level of contribution in the beginning but perhaps that was the way it was meant to be and things worked out. I just felt like I had more to offer but things worked out and are better now than ever. It’s got me excited for the future.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Jens: AthFest was a major milestone for us. We had just lost our bassist and we weren’t sure if we were going to translate live as a two piece or not. Oddly enough, it went so well that we essentially proved to ourselves that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”.
Dylan: Athfest for sure. It was our first show as a two piece and we got such a good reception from so many people. I will say though that every show we’ve played there are moments of pride for me. Any time I get to go on stage and do this is a proud moment for me. We’ve always handled things that come up at shows professionally and that has set us apart from so many others.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Jens: Just how organic and small it is. Props to everyone making it happen.
Dylan: The fact that locally we have a small community that supports each other in the scene.
What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Jens: YOB, Slomatics, Floor, ZZ Top, and Prince.
Dylan: High On Fire, Fu Manchu, Night Verses, and Yelawolf. Gotta love some southern rap, but I have tons more shit in my rotation.
What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Jens: Just make the art you want to make and not what you think the audience wants. The people who are going to appreciate it will find you.
Dylan: Man this one for me is difficult to say only one, because I’ve been given so much amazing advice in my life as a musician and the one that comes closest to home for me is just enjoy the journey. That’s the most important thing, and always be a student. Never stop learning.
What are your guilty pleasures?
Jens: Urban (hiphop?) culture for sure. I’m from Chicago man. It’s in my blood. Cypress Hill, a good nice pair of Jordans, some fresh clothes, and a night out with the boys?!? Hell yeah.
Dylan: Definitely ice cold beer! I’m a beer connoisseur so I like all kinds!

Can you say something more about the music scene in Atlanta?
Jens: Atlanta has such a ton fuck of really great bands. Order Of The Owl, Dayglo Mourning, Bask, Bog Monkey, Dead Vibes Ensemble, and of course everyone knows about Mastodon. It’s a great scene, good people, and great venues. Shout out to Syd Howell for breaking his back to keep it alive and all the fans who keep coming out, day or night, rain or shine.
Dylan: Atlanta is dominated by hipHop/rap and to be a metal band from this area you really have to stand out. Most of the local scene still feels underground but it’s been steadily growing. so much great music has come from the south.
Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Jens/Dylan: We’re playing at Blackstrap Music Hall Oct 4th with a special guest (to be announced soon!) and then at the Tampa Doom and Gloom Fest Oct 5-6th. Definitely some of our most important shows for us thus far.
What are your plans for the future as a band?
Jens: We’re headed back into the studio in August and shooting for a Friday the 13th release in Sept (also my 47th bday!). After that we’re just focusing on the Oct shows and seeing where some conversations with other bands/labels/etc flesh out. We’ll keep everyone posted!
Dylan: Ultimately we want to continue doing this making the music we want to make, so we’re gonna keep on writing, recording, and playing bigger and better shows. We may not play as often as some people want, but we want to make those shows as special as possible.
How can people best support your band?
Jens/Dylan: Just stream the music and go to shows. Our shows, someone else’s shows, whatever. Supporting your scene supports everyone. A rising tide lifts all ships.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Jens/Dylan: Thank you!
