Doomed Confessionary: Jörg (Slow Green Thing)

Slow Green Thing is a four-piece stoner/doom metal band from Dresden, Germany. The band’s line-up consists of current and former members of Black Karma, Burning Motors, Red Wave, Fyretyre and Stonehead. Slow Green Thing are Sven (guitar, vocals), Jörg (drums), Dave (guitar) and Martin (bass).
These guys are majorly vibing with ’70s hard rock, with nods to heavy metal. Psychedelic vocals and jam sessions wrap up their whole deal. With five full-length albums and an EP under their belts, the quartet is spreading their sound on the green stage.
Slow Green Thing’s new studio album »Wetterwarte / Waltherstrasse« was just released on March 29th, 2024.
Can you say a few words about your band?
We are Slow Green Thing, based in Dresden/Germany. We’ve carved our niche in the stoner/doom realm by fusing the gritty essence of ’70s hard rock with the thick, immersive soundscapes of modern stoner-doom metal. As members of SGT, Sven, Dave, Martin, and I bring our individual flair to blend the classic rock vibe with today’s stoner metal depth. Our music is a labor of love, a balanced mix of heavy, riff-driven sections and airy, melodic touches that reflect our identity. With four albums and an EP to our name, we pride ourselves on creating music that’s not just heavy for the sake of it but carries a distinctive groove and a soulful, melodic core, making our sound unmistakable in the genre.
What was the biggest challenge for the band last year?
Obviously to get the whole stuff according to the new release to be done – finish mixing, mastering etc. Also to find an appropriate substitute for our lead guitarist Dave, who is spending a lot of his time currently on the other side of the planet – which is good and everyone should do so. But luckily, we found a solution with Hacku (member of Dead Myrick), who is currently shredding with us and he is really great. And lastly, we moved to another rehearsal room, the plans were crafted at the end of 2023 – and the fun thing, now we are sharing the room with our buddies from Dead Myrick… need to say, Dresden has a great and cozy stoner/doom/psych scene and we just love it.
What can you be most proud of last year?
Again, finishing the record. Especially since we did everything by ourselves – recording, mixing (Dave!), partially mastering, crafting media data, triggering the production process, without having a label in the background for all these needs. However, we still got some support from our former label Fuzzmatazz for the digital distribution and hope it will kick in in March. Unfortunately, we had to cover the whole financial side ourselves – and it’s really costly – so we hope for a great support from our fans in the next months to cover this unattractive topic to be able to produce even more in the future. And we already have a lot of new stuff and ideas – so we have no problems with creativity right now and the next record will follow in the next couple of years for sure. So the second proud topic is the fact that we already have new stuff in process.
What was your biggest regret?
Probably the fact of spending too much time to trigger the record production – it could be so much faster and we could have the release in Autumn 2023. The reasons were on the plates of multiple people, but it is as it is. Now we are happy and looking forward to it.
What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
For sure Crowbar support in Chemiefabrik Dresden (best concert venue in Dresden!). No words needed. Especially since we had only 4 gigs last year…
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
For me personally Elder supports Tool. I mean, the news hit last year and the tour started in 2024, but still… Both bands play a huge role in my own music world.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
For now only a few shows are planned in eastern Germany and we are always looking for venues and festivals to play at:
Fri, Apr 19 – Bandhaus Erfurt – Erfurt, Germany
Sat, Apr 20 – Stoner Rock – Senftenberg
What are your plans for this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
Continue crafting new stuff in our new shiny rehearsal room and find a couple of nice festivals to play at
How can people best support your band?
By going to the shows! This is the most important point – every musician loves when people show love. But also supporting via merch – be it after gigs or the digital way – we always appreciate the support. The best way is to do it on slowgreenthing.bandcamp.com.
Do you have any message for your listeners?
Stay true to handcrafted music! Bands can only thrive with the right support. It’s not just about buying merch – attending concerts, providing feedback (both offline and online), and such actions are crucial.
Of course, we’d still like to mention that our latest album drops on March 22nd, and you can support us directly, especially through Bandcamp. This way, you ensure that your contributions reach us directly, not lost to the clutches of greedy major corporations.
