Doomed Confessionary: Richard Wilson (Mourning Scars)

And here it is… The second interview for today!
Mourning Scars has a strong foundation in heavy metal and doom metal. The founder Richard Wilson have a background in Swedish bands Floodhorse and Master Massive.
Born in Skövde, Sweden Richard played in various local heavy metal and grunge bands in the late 80’s and 90’s both as a drummer and a singer. In 2000’s he focused on the more mellow and acoustic americana/singer-songwriter style music.
Now it’s 2023 and Richard is going back to the roots and that means heavy metal/doom metal!
Can you say a few words about your band?
Mourning Scars is basically a recording project from Gothenburg, Sweden. Richard Wilson writes, records, mixes and masters everything except the all guns blazing solos of maestro Stefan Nordmark.
What was the biggest challenge for the band this year?
To start from nothing this January, and to write some kick ass songs and start getting a following!
What can you be most proud of this year?
I am proud of the fact that I did all this by myself (with huge help from Stefan) which was the goal of this project! I wanted to prove to myself I could do this.
What was your biggest regret?
No regrets really!
What was the best concert/tour this year and why?
We don’t tour or play shows but I saw some other great acts this year for sure. I got to see Pantera, Testament and Iron Maiden at the Sweden Rock Festival. Also The Winery Dogs were great. Saw them at a club in Gothenburg.
What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
I have discovered so many great new bands this year! Eisige Venen, Anger Overdose, Sparra Limb, Shovel Monster, Brazen Forgery, Creepboåt, Fanskapt just to name a few. There’s a great community on Facebook called Band Together that has so many up and coming new bands to check out!
Where can we see you live next year (concerts/tours)?
Never say never but we are not a touring band right now.
What are your plans for the next year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
I am hoping to compile 10 of our songs and release them on vinyl! Other than that, just keep on writing as many songs as I can!
How can people best support your band?
Listen to the music. If you like it, please buy it on Bandcamp. Buy a t-shirt… Tell your radio station about us. Add a nice comment if you like the music. It means a lot!
Do you have any message for your listeners?
I want to thank each and everyone who supported this endeavor so far, and I really mean it! There’s been so many nice things said and done, I don’t know where to begin. Just THANK YOU and stay heavy!
