Doomed Confessionary: The Sorrow Of Being Immaculate

The Sorrow Of Being Immaculate is an one-man doom/sludge metal band based out of Oxfordshire, UK, drawing musical influences from the likes of Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, Earth, and Sunn, to name a few.

Horror films and nature, particularly woodland provide thematic inspiration and imagery that bleeds through the project’s sound. The Sorrow Of Being Immaculate has been active in the Oxford music scene for the past couple of years, supporting Norwegian stoner band Kal-El, Desertfest regulars Wall and Desert Storm at various venues in a previous project.

TSOBI’s debut EP »Church Music For Satanists« just dropped on February 9th, 2024 via Drone Alone Productions.

Can you say a few words about your band?
Its slow, heavy and here to hypnotize our tiny minds.

What was the biggest challenge for you last year?
Finding the cash to record – the same as always! I write a lot and have to wait to fund recordings which can be frustrating.

What can you be most proud of last year?
Getting the debut EP done. Took a lot of effort but its here and ready to go. Sometimes if I’m in the wrong mood I don’t always like what I write but with this one I’m genuinely excited by it and when I listen to it, its as a fan of heavy music, not as the person who wrote it.

What was your biggest regret?
None. Maybe I could have gone to more gigs?

What was the best concert/tour last year and why?
Hmm… I would say Obituary but Crowbar at Desertfest blew me away. Loads of great songs and delivery. What a band – total pro’s. Also Kirk was out the back of the venue before they played chatting with fans.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Either the entitlement of some music fans who think they should get music for free – NO YOU SHOULDN’T – or just how much the UK metal scene is on fire at the moment. SO many cool bands.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
I’m trying to book some gigs in London and possibly Bristol or Manchester but defo around Oxford.

What are your plans for this year as a band? What do you personally want the most?
To play live a lot and finish the debut album. I’d like to gig as much as possible and get out there meeting other bands and people.

What are your New Year’s Eve activities like?
Staying in. I don’t do New Year!

How can people best support your band?
Buy the EP at Bandcamp: dronealoneprods.bandcamp.com.

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Keep supporting heavy bands! Don’t stream – it’s a rip off for the artists, especially Spotify – a terrible company. BUY band stuff at the gigs and online. Its not far off being unsustainable as it is but bands will soon find it impossible to be able to afford to do anything without your support.
