Behrosth comments: “»Заволочье« (Zavolochye) is a record about memory, blood, and the things that refuse to remain buried. Its songs follow forgotten names, nameless dead, ancient violence and the fragile boundary between the living and the dead. The past here is not history – it is something that watches, waits, and eventually comes back for the living.”

Behrosth is an active psychedelic and black metal band formed in Barnaul, Altai Krai, Russia. Started in 2015 as a traditional black metal project, later evolving into a blend of psychedelic, blackened doom, and self-described “magick metal”.

“Winters in these parts are very long, which is why it’s always been customary in Zavolochye to heat stoves from other people’s huts. It’s a blessed warmth for us, and they are remembered in the annals.

The harvest this year has been meager, and it would be a sin to complain. Three days ago, a neighbor, without his chain mail, went into the forest to gather brushwood, but never returned. After praying, we moved our fence two fathoms closer to the stream. We also managed to get some very good boots from him, which will do just fine in the yard.

Yesterday, at dawn, someone was being burned across the river. We went out onto the porch and looked which way the wind was blowing, crossed ourselves so that the sparks wouldn’t reach our log house, and then went to build our palisade. There’s no time to turn around to hear other people’s cries, for there’s still a mountain of work to be done before the cold sets in.
