Doomed Confessionary: Ginny, Serena & Roberta (Dune Aurora)

Dune Aurora is a fuzz/heavy rock trio from Turin, Italy. So far, they released an EP »Lonely Town« and three singles.

Dune Aurora’s current line-up consists of Ginny Wagon (lead vocals, guitar), Serena Bodratto (drums, backing vocals) and Roberta Finiguerra (bass).

Can you say a few words about your band?
Dune Aurora is a fuzz/heavy rock band that we, Serena and Ginny, started in 2020. Roberta joined the band in 2023. In summer 2022 we recorded our first EP – »Lonely Town«, containing four tracks. Last year we recorded three songs which we released as singles (»Solar Reward«, »Sail« and »Fire«), each with a music video. During the last four years we have been performing live in Northern Italy, individually or sharing the stage with other bands of the scene. Currently, we are working on new material for future releases and playing gigs as much as we can.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
Overcoming the changes in our lineup was surely not easy. Also, we started with four members and when our previous guitarist left, we became a power trio. Passing from two guitars to one required some obvious changes especially at the composition level… What makes us happy though is that we never stopped, no matter what happened. We even played gigs with friends who helped us by replacing a missing member. So in the end everything went well. We have reached a new stability now and we are pleased with the result.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Being able to carry out a project started during the pandemic with all the work and effort that comes with self-production. Publishing the songs we have written is a big accomplishment and we cannot wait to see our first album out there in the world.

What was your biggest regret?
No regrets! Ha ha joking. We have always tried our best to keep going but the time of the pandemic made things really hard. At the end, you want to play live and show your music. But this was an unfortunate event that affected us all.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
Every concert gave us something and became a nice memory. Genoa is an Italian city to which we are very attached and last year we played there at a very cool festival called Festival “delle Periferie” with bands such as Isaak and Ufomammut which was great. Another awesome gig was this year at a community center called Buridda where we played in front of more than 300 people.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Having the opportunity of sharing the stage with bands and musicians that we listen to and follow for years or even decades. Another surprise was being able to buy an Orange Rockerverb for 1k bucks, that was a lucky day for sure.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Everything that goes from heavy to stoner rock. We love to discover new bands and we support our local scene, going to live shows or listening to their releases. It’s a very important thing for us, plus in Northern Italy we have some amazing bands that really deserve to be supported.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
We play since we were kids so over the years we’ve been given a load of advice from other musicians which helped us grow.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Coffee!…someone here also say barbecue ribs and gallons of beer.

Can you say something more about the music scene in Turin / Northern Italy?
As we said before, Northern Italy has plenty of great bands such as Isaak, Tons, Burn the Ocean, Temple of deimos, Passover, Blue Lies, Godzilla Was Too Drunk To Destroy Tokyo, Space Paranoids and many more… Regarding clubs, in Turin we have Blah Blah, Ziggy, Spazio 211 and other places that give bands the possibility of playing live shows. Blah Blah is like home to us, its staff is always at work to bring bands that are touring Europe and it’s pretty cool to go there when we can and see their shows.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Currently we are planning gigs in Italy and we are working towards playing in some other countries in Europe. We’ll keep you updated on our social media channels!

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Definitely recording and releasing our first album on which we are currently working. Being on stage a lot more is another goal. Also, we are open to collaborations with other bands for splits and tours.

How can people best support your band?
We have a Bandcamp profile where people can buy our music and soon also our merch: duneaurora.bandcamp.com.
If you like what we do, supporting us will help us doing it more and better!

Do you have any message for your listeners?
Always keep rock and heavy music alive! Go to concerts, support your local scene and play music! Also, listen to Dune Aurora!! Ha ha
Thank you for the interview, it was a pleasure!
