Doomed Confessionary: Mike Uimonen (Shrouded In Darkness)

Shrouded In Darkness is a death/doom metal power trio from Sweden formed in 2021. Mike (bass, drums) had for a while been thinking of forming a fairly pure doom death band and the music for a full-length. In 2021, he recruited Daniel T. on vocals and keyboards and Reese on solo guitar and Shrouded In Darkness was thus formed. Daniel T. soon put words to Mike’s music, and they started working on a debut album with seven tracks of pure heavy darkness!

Shrouded In Darkness’ third installment, entitled »11:11«, collects 7 tracks of heavy doom metal, with organs, flowing solos, deep growls and ritualistic pounding music from start to finish. As always, it’s dark and with a funeral atmosphere; a perfect soundtrack for doom. New album »11:11« is scheduled for release on May 30th, 2025 via Downfall Records.

Can you please say a few words about your band?
Well, we are a doom/death-funeral metal band and our music is slow, heavy and dark and features church organ as an instrument in all songs. We are three members living in different cities in Sweden.

What was the biggest challenge for the band?
No big challenge really. Maybe as we live in different cities, we don’t meet up and rehearse the songs before recordings nor meet and test different ideas to the songs. So far most songs have been made by me. Then Daniel add his keyboards and he and his brother write the lyrics and reese do his guitars. But also to find time to do music, as all three of us have other bands/projects going on at the same time.

What can you be most proud of so far?
Most proud? It’s the songs/albums and their sound and look to them.

What was your biggest regret?
Hm, no regrets really, not last year or in general.

What was the best concert/tour so far and why?
I’ve not been to any concert/tour lately, so I can’t name any. And the band aren’t doing any concerts/tours at the moment and have not done any so far.

What was the biggest surprise on the music scene for you?
Not much of a suprise on the music scene nowdays. But prices on music (CD/Vinyl/MC) seems to get higher and higher and also concert tickets. And beers.

What is currently in your heavy musical rotation?
Lately I’ve listened alot to different goth music. And also post-punk and darkwave – streaming on Spotify. Last CDs I bought was Morbid Angel, Terrorizer and Marduk.

What was the best advice you’ve ever been given as a musician?
Never quit your day job, haha. Or practise, practise and practise. Which I didn’t follow myself, haha. So I don’t know if these tips are the best.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Within music it could be euro dance music like E-type, 2 Unlimited and Maxxx… And food: pizza. Movies: horror movies.

Can you say something more about the current music scene in Gothenburg?
In Gothenburg, there’s some bigger names and also alot of smaller ones. There’s a few places that host smaller live bands, but only a few. Also a few new venues trying to do their thing. But overall there are more live shows in other genres here.

Where can we see you live this year (concerts/tours)?
Well, as we don’t do live shows there’s nothing planned. But if we would get a support spot to a bigger band, we might do it.

What are your plans for the future as a band?
Our plans are doing more songs and release maybe a 7″ vinyl and an EP. We also have songs for our fourth album ready to be worked on, but no plans for this yet. We’ve released our first album in 2021, the second one in 2023 and now our latest third album coming in May 2025.

How can people best support your band?

Do you have any message for your listeners?
